New Enrolments Now Closed for 2018

Babies aged 6-36 months   |   $16 per lesson (30 mins)   |   Max students per class 9

Advanced Water Babies | Aqua Tots | Super Tots 1 2 and 3

All new baby enrolments are now closed for this year. Bookings for Quarter 1 open December 10.

The Northern Arena babies swimming lessons focus on getting your baby comfortable in the water and teaching them basic co-ordination as well as early awareness and survive skills.  Baby swimming lessons are a great opportunity to strengthen gross & fine motor skills, enhance co-ordination & balance, provide positive encouragement, help develop social skills, improve cognitive development and because you’re in the pool with them, it’s a great bonding experience for *you and your child. Once your baby learns to love being in the water, they’re in a great position to begin to learn to swim. *Caregiver must be minimum of 16 years of age.

Northern Arena’s baby pool is a slightly higher temperature so that both you and your child remain comfortable for the duration of the swimming lesson. The water in the Northern Arena baby pool along with all the pools at Northern Arena is treated by ultraviolet light (similar to the way our drinking water is treated) meaning extremely low levels of chlorine.

Babies love the water – and there’s no better time to start.

Where is Northern Arena?
Northern Arena is located in Silverdale at the top of the hill on the corner of The Hibiscus Coast Highway and Whangaparaoa Road next to the Silverdale Medical Centre. Our address is 8 Polarity Rise, Silverdale, Auckland.

How long are the lessons?
Lessons are 30 minutes.

How often are my lessons?
You are enrolled for 1 lesson per week on the same day and time each week.

How do I prepare for my first lesson?
Check out this link and video to find out everything you need to know for your first lesson.

What does my baby wear?
In order to minimise accidents in the pool, we highly recommend the following for babies and pre-schoolers:
1. Tight-legged reusable nappies (These can be found at Northern Arena from 5kg and up)
2. Any disposable nappies to be accompanied by tight-legged swimwear

Caps and goggles are not compulsory for babies, however caps are compulsory in pre-school lessons and we also recommend goggles. For this reason, we suggest Super Tots start getting used to wearing caps and goggles.

Where do I buy Swim Nappies?
Reusable swim nappies are available at reception at Northern Arena. Please see our friendly reception team for help. Please note, we no longer sell disposable swim nappies.

What do I wear?
Swim togs is all you will need! If you do not have any, please see our Speedo shop located by reception to get yourself sorted.

Do I need to wear a swim cap?
No you don’t. Neither you nor your baby requires a swim cap for parent and child lessons.

Am I in the water with my child?
Yes, every parent and child lesson requires a parent/caregiver over the age of 16yrs to be in the water. So bring your togs and towel as well.

Do you have changing and shower facilities?
Yes. There are three family change rooms which all include a shower, toilet and a nappy change table. There are also six additional nappy change tables in each of the male and female change rooms. Extra showers are on deck and extra toilets are identified by the tap symbol.

If I can’t get in the water one week can another person take my place?
The lessons teach the caregiver as well as the child, therefore it is important that there is consistency of caregiver in the water. It is best if the same caregiver gets in the pool each week however, if necessary, this role could be shared by two people. All caregivers must be at least 16 years of age.

Can both parents attend the lesson?
Only one parent/caregiver will be in the water with your child, but family and friends are able to watch from the pool side.

What do I do if my child is sick or I miss a lesson?
If you are unable to attend a lesson please let us know by either calling us on 09 421 9700 or via this simple form. If you do not attend for more than 2 weeks in a row and do not let us know we will remove you from the programme and fill your vital space.

Can I do more than 1 lesson a week?
Yes, this can be arranged at reception (subject to availability).

Can I take photos?
Yes you can. Please take care and be aware when photographing your child, as some other parents may not want their children in any photographs.

What do I do with my pushchair?

Please park pushchairs in a space where there is no seating next to the pool where you will be swimming. Please do not block the deck, emergency exits or the seating area.

“The facility is brilliant. I had rugged my baby up for our first class thinking that it would be cold afterwards but the temperature of the water and surrounding area is always nice and warm.” S. Brockbank

“I just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying the facilities at Northern Arena. It is a superb facility and I really appreciate the thought gone into making it user friendly, especially with regard to the baby changing facilities. Our daughter loves swimming every week and has been doing so since she was 5 months old and we don’t want to stop anytime soon. It has helped her development, co-ordination and social skills greatly and she looks forward to swimming each week."

R. Sunderland

“I think the swimming lessons are so great! I am 35 weeks pregnant so each time a family member like my partner, sister and mom get to go in the water with my son, its just so lovely for us all to be able to experience these special moments watching him have so much fun in the water and us learn all the different ways to hold him and things to do with him in the pool. I am so grateful to have had the chance to be able to be involved in this!"
L. Turton

“My 12 month old daughter was lucky enough to be one of the babies signed up for the free swimming lessons (thank you Manuka Dr). I just wanted to let you know that I think you have a fabulous facility, fab friendly staff and I can’t speak highly enough of our swimming instructor Tanya. My daughter lights up as soon as we walk through the main door. Thanks so much.”

“So we had our first swimming lesson today at the Northern Arena it was FAB! My 1 year old enjoyed it immensly and we are so pleased to have been given the opportunity for those free lessons. The staff are friendly and helpful, the swim teacher gentle and skilled. Will be signing up again next term!”

“When our babies hit 4 months we got our coffee group together for a babies swim class at northern arena. The great thing is as well as the babies loving it, we mummies get to enjoy a nice coffee and catch up after. Our son really enjoys his bath times now and we get a nice sleep out of him after swimming.”
A. Clifford

“Once again amazing customer service, nothing is too much trouble and I could even feel the smile over the phone. You guys truly are wonderful. Cheers.”
S. Bennett

“I just wanted to let you know how fantastic we think our advanced water babies swim teacher is… We have been lucky enough to have her for a second term this year. She has such a warm personality, a great sense of humor and clearly a very strong passion for what she does. My biggest challenge at swimming is convincing my daughter to stop watching her and focus on me! I particularly like how adaptable she is, if we all start doing the wrong thing, she just goes with the flow and mixes the programme up. Quite a skill to deal with a pool full of women with baby brain! I know that the other Mum’s in our group think she’s great too.”
L. McTeigue
