Northern Arena learn to swim school believes all children should be given the opportunity to learn to swim, be safer, and enjoy the water.
Our philosophy is to mainstream disabled children in the pool where this is possible. We extend all children so they reach their potential and believe anything is possible if you persevere. All abilities from 1st time in the water to Special Olympic swimming is catered for.
At Northern Arena swim school, our swim teachers have been trained in the "No Exceptions Training" programme from the Halberg Trust and we treat all our children as potential swimmers regardless of disability.
Northern Arena Director, Mark Saunders instigated swimming for disabled “Teaching Disabled Swimmers” teacher training course for Swimming New Zealand. Many of our swim teachers are now trained in teaching disabled swimming including autism, Aspergers, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Cancer, ADD, ADDHD, Angelman's syndrome, and visual and hearing impairment.
Suggested funding ideas:
All disabled swim classes are taught in purpose-built swimming pools with disabled access and are specifically designed to enhance enjoyment, confidence, development, and safety in and around water.

So much Knowledge
"I just wanted to say how wonderful Harry’s swimming lesson was yesterday, what an amazing teacher, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone teach with so much energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge. Harry had a great time plowing up and down, he is competitive and really wanted to shine. Northern arena is outstanding for inclusion for all. We are looking forward to the next lesson." V. Randall
