It does not matter if you are new to exercise or an old-hand, there are a few options to help you on your health and fitness journey. We have complimentary gym explorer for every new member. These can be booked on registration or at reception or simply complete the form here.
Personal Trainers are fitness experts. It does not matter what your fitness goal is – weight loss, strength gain, athletic performance, stress relief, or if you simply need accountability and motivation – a Personal Trainer will work with you to achieve your goals and get results.
If you are ever unsure of how to use a piece of equipment, or the cardio machines look like the control panel from the Starship Enterprise, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our friendly staff and they will be more than happy to help. We also have a handy “ Gym Machines ” page on our website with some videos and other helpful information.
With over 50 hours per week of group fitness available, we have a huge range of classes from which to choose, including World leaders in Group Fitness, Les Mills Group Fitness, Yoga, Circuit Training, Boxing classes, Les Mills Grit Series and brand new in 2016 - F2 - Results driven FUNctional Training and Les Mills Sprint.
Please be aware some classes (RPM, Sprint and F2) have limited availability and may require a booking at peak times. Bookings work on a first come, first serve basis and operate week by week (ie. bookings are not on-going). If you have made a booking and are no longer able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can free the space up for someone else. If you are not present 10 minutes before the start of the class, your place may be allocated to another person.
You should have been given a timetable when you joined up but the latest timetable, including all class descriptions, can be found here on our website.
Exercise opportunities are not confined to the gym alone. Whether you want to swim in a group or on your own, swim train for an Ironman or are just hoping to get fit, there are 37 hours of swimming available every week. Our Swim Fit swim sessions cater for every age and ability and have an expert swimming coach present to assist with technique correction if required. Our coaches can set individual programmes, help with swim stroke and swimming technique or leave you to swim at your leisure. Please do not hesitate to ask them for their expert advice.
Jump in and start and finish at any time during the session, although with some programmes it may be more practical to be present at start time.
It is compulsory to wear a swimming cap in order to help us maintain an extremely high level of water quality.
If small people are a part of your life (aged 3 months – 7 years) do not forget to check out our childcare service. You may use it regularly or casually. See here for more on our Supervised Play Area including all you need to know about making a booking, our policy and our qualified staff.

To help make your time, and that of others, a more enjoyable experience at Northern Arena, we ask you to follow a few simple rules: Bring your swipe card every time you visit. Whether you are making a splash, going for a dash or flexing some muscles, make sure you scan in each time.
Hitting the gym -please toss your gear in a locker. For security, you will need to bring your own padlock. Lockers must be cleared each day. If you are using the pool it is best to leave your gear on the deck rather than in the change rooms.
We do not want to see where you have been, only help to get you where you are going, so towels are compulsory in all workout areas. Forgot your towel? You can purchase one from reception.
In the pool shorts are not cool – stick with lycra, latex and goggles. When working out in the gym or heading to a group fitness class, wear something comfy and safe -which does not mean hard hats and day glow -just no jeans or open toes.
Cycle shoes mean you can rip it up in RPM but because they rip up the floor PLEASE do not rock around in them in other areas.
Tick, tock, tick, tock, -time is of the essence. Being on time and ready to roll, ride or glide means that strokes can be mastered and mountains can be conquered.

We offer a 14 day comfort guarantee which starts from the date you join (not the starting date of your membership). To cancel your membership, you must tell us in writing that you want to cancel your membership during your 14 day comfort guarantee period. We will then cancel your agreement and refund any dues paid during that period – all you will have paid is your non-refundable joining fee.
Please advise us of any changes of your contact details including phone numbers or postal and email addresses.
Please see here for information to help understand our payment structure. The payment of fees are by making regular monthly payments by direct debit from either a credit card or nominated bank account.
Under certain circumstances, memberships can be suspended in multiples of 1 month up to a maximum of 3 month, each calendar year. Please note that 7 days’ notice is required in order to suspend your membership. You can request a suspension of your membership, by calling reception on 09 4219700 or using our online contact form here or visiting reception.
NOTE: If you are within minimum agreement, a suspension is not classified as a full payment toward your minimum agreement period.
If you are outside of the 14 day comfort guarantee you are required to give 30 days’ notice of termination. You may cancel at any time provided you have reached your minimum contract period.
We will be sad to see you go, but if you wish to cancel your membership with us at Northern Arena, as stipulated in Northern Arena’s membership terms and conditions, memberships that are paid for by regular payment option (Direct debit) do not automatically expire at the end of their minimum term. You must contact Northern Arena and let us know that you no longer wish to continue your membership.
NOTE: In all scenarios, please ensure you give us your email address so we can confirm your request in writing via email. Please keep a copy of your cancellation email.
