PROGRAMME

Let's make our children safer

Schools Programme

We hold a pivotal role of ensuring the safety and providing key life skills to children in the community. Learning to swim is as important as learning to read and write, which is why Northern Arena’s award winning learn to swim school focuses on changing and saving lives in and around water.

Our learn to swim, water safety programmes and school sports can easily cater for 20 to 500 children at a time. Events and programs are held during school time and can be tailored to suit your schools needs.

Schools Programme

Learn to Swim and Water Safety Program

The Schools Learn to Swim program teaches children from years 1-9 to be more comfortable and safer in the water.

The program:

  • Provides individual student assessments at the beginning and end of the programme with feedback to each student.

  • Can cater swimming lessons for all levels and abilities.

  • Teaches students to swim and survive by learning correct stroke technique and swim fitness.

Alongside the schools learn to swim program is an extremely important and comprehensive, practical boat and water safety module. The Northern Arena School Water Safety and Boat Safety Programme enhances confidence in the water and teaches students key boat and water safety skills with all equipment provided. Key survival skills include:

  • Floating

  • Treading Water (in calm and moving water)

  • Swimming to safety*

  • Submersion’s and searching

  • Unaided entry and exits

  • Life jacket education, skills and practices including ‘HELP’ (Heat Escape Lessening Posture)

  • Boat education, skills and practices

  • Boat practices in life jackets

*Distances adjusted for each child’s ability.

The Schools Learn to Swim program typically runs over 10 x 30 minute sessions for a two week period, or for our older students, 5 x one hour sessions over a one week period. However, we can also tailor our structure to meet your schools requirements.

School Swimming Sports

School Swimming Sports

Let Northern Arena host your school swimming sports day.

Our 8 lane swimming pool is separate from our other learn to swim pools so your swimming sports carnival can be held privately.  The swimming pool area is designed for viewing pleasure with elevated, tiered seating available for over 300 students, parents, grandparents, friends and family to watch the swimming races. (extra seating available).

The enclosed swimming pool area also has its very own PA system complete with microphone which allows you to communicate effectively with the crowd.

We can provide all the gear you need to make your day stress-free and run as smoothly as possible.  We can provide a highly trained lifeguard, use of recording tables, extra chairs for timekeepers and spectators and we can organise the use of starting equipment.

Hire fees for the eight lane swimming pool start at $165 per hour (plus GST). We are flexible with times allowing you to maximize your day swimming at Northern Arena.

Successful Experience

"The whole experience has been very successful for us. The students went every day for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed their lessons. The facilities are excellent and the organisation was thorough. Each day the Schools Programme Co-ordinator, was on hand to meet us from the bus and help the teachers in any way. The Co-ordinator was enthusiastic, cheerful and positive with the students, ensuring the smooth running of the programme at all times. The progress many of our students made, from using committed instructors and the latest methods, was outstanding. They were carefully leveled into ability groups and the instructors quickly knew all the students names and encouraged them to try new skills.” Sherryl Prangley, Deputy Principal, Oteha Valley School
